The classic Tony Hawk’s games have the deepest PC modding history of any skate series. Neversoft’s engine stayed scriptable from THPS3 through American Wasteland, the PC ports were moddable from the start, and GameSpy multiplayer kept people playing until it shut down in 2014.
THUG Pro
THUG Pro is a total conversion of Tony Hawk’s Underground 2. Morten Larson, Quazz, %.Gone and Chase started it in 2012, when the community was split across dying servers and platforms. The first beta came out on August 10, 2013, with every THUG and THUG2 level plus park themes from THPS4 and American Wasteland. Later updates brought in most levels from the Neversoft era, including the rest of THPS3 in December 2015. Version 0.6 in June 2018 added mod support. The last update was in October 2023.
Custom levels and soundtracks come from the THPSX community, using a Blender plugin (2017, updated 2018) that imports and exports THUG Pro levels. Reviewers have called it a better Tony Hawk game than the official THPS5.
PARTYMOD and ClownJob’d
PARTYMOD, by PARTYMANX, is a family of open-source patches for THPS2, THPS3, THPS4, THUG, THUG2, American Wasteland and Mat Hoffman’s Pro BMX. Each one fixes bugs, adds modern controller support through SDL2, supports widescreen resolutions, and connects online play to OpenSpy, the community replacement for GameSpy. PARTYMOD credits the earlier ClownJob’d THUG2 patch as its inspiration.
